RWF Training Facility, Ukpo-Anambra.
15kVA solar installation for a vocational training centre.
The Challenge
A vocational training centre in Ukpo trained women in, tailoring, catering and computer skills. Grid power was available for only 1–2 hours daily, and the 80kVA generator required for workshops and computer labs cost ₦750,000 monthly in diesel.
Power shortages were limiting training schedules and reducing the number of students the centre could accommodation.
Our Solution
We deployed a 15kVA hybrid solar system with 15kWh battery storage. The system powers pressing iron stations, sewing machines, computer labs, and classroom lighting throughout the training day.
20 panels on the training hall roof generate power while providing shade for outdoor practical sessions. Battery storage ensures evening computer classes can continue after sunset.
How We Delivered
Training Load Assessment
Surveyed all workshop equipment, computer labs, and classroom requirements.
Dual-Purpose Design
Panel shading utilised for outdoor practical training areas.
Installation
Two-week installation during school break to avoid disrupting classes.
Student Orientation
Centre staff trained on monitoring. Solar power incorporated into student curriculum.
Results
- check_circle Training centre now operates without diesel for daily power needs.
- check_circle Evening computer classes now possible thanks to battery backup.
- check_circle Centre added a second training shift, doubling student intake.
- check_circle Solar installation used as a teaching tool for renewable energy courses.
System Specifications
Our training centre can now run two full shifts of classes. The students are learning about renewable energy from the very system powering their workshops. Solar changed our future.
